JEWISH MEN’S EVENT – Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, keynotes the annual Men’s Event of the Jewish Federation of San Diego County from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier. The $100-per-person kosher event is open to anyone who contributes in advance or at the door a minimum $180 to the Federation’s annual campaign. For youngsters 21 and under, the minimum contribution is $36.

L’DOR V’DOR–From Generation to Generation.  The Gotthelf Art Gallery San Diego Center for Jewish Culture new exhibit from September 14, 2011 – November 16, 2011 Open to the public. Four artists and family members represented in: Lizet Benrey, Ken Goldman, Becky Guttin and Vivien Ressler are able to share their family history with us through their art. A MELTON SAMPLER: FINDING BALANCE–In this “micro-course” from the Melton Institute of the Hebrew University, you will study significant Jewish texts (biblical, Talmudic, midrashic, and medieval) that are concerned with family, work, community and self. Discussion on the perspectives these texts offer on ways to balance these priorities and on the power of Jewish study to give greater meaning to the way we live our lives. AGING WELL MEN’S GROUP–Moderator: Bruce Sachs, Ph.D. Open to all men ages 65 years and older, group supports your needs and helps you continue to thrive as you move through the later stages of life. DIVORCE & SEPARATION GROUP–Open to all individuals who are considering, in the process of or post-divorce. Attend this group to help sort out feelings, thoughts and concerns. Interact with others about how relationships have been affected, how to move on, fears about the present and future, feelings of sadness, loss, and anger. Open to new attendees. Are you interested in exploring your spiritual side? Join Rabbi Aliza Berk, LMFT as our group uses poetry, guided meditation, chanting, personal reflection, and Jewish text study to deepen our spiritual connections and understanding. The group will explore the concept of Jewish spiritual direction as a prayerful and focused discussion on finding God in one’s life and one’s world.  Participants learn to practice “inner listening,” an essential skill towards living completely in the present. $48 for all eight sessions.
