MEDICAL CARE — Dr. Jess Mandel, associate dean of the UCSD School of Medicine, discusses “the changing scope of medical care” at a deli dinner  meeting of the Men’s Club of Congregation Beth Israel at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the congregation.  To RSVP call Beth Israel’s program director at Program Director Bonnie Graff, 858 535-1111, ext. 3800.

SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE — Dr. Jeffrey Schein, senior consultant for Jewish education for the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, will deliver fourvlectures durng a “scholar in residence” weekend at Congregation Dor Hadash in Kearny Mesa.  At 7 p.m., Friday, March 16, during Kabbalat Shabbat service his topic will be “Reconstructing the Jewish Life Cycle, Learning from Pirke Avot, Shakespeare and Science.”  At 10 a.m. during Torah study on Saturday, March 17, the topic will be “Bezalel’s Wisdom and the Creation of Sacred Space.”  At 12:30 p.m. that same day, he’ll address “On the Edge of Possibility, Jewish Identity in the 21st Century.”  And at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 18, his topic will be “Jewish Parenting: Learning from the Past, Shaping the Future.”
