Kostrinksy gets endorsements of police and lifeguard unions

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — Two influential public safety groups have endorsed Mathew Kostrinsky for San Diego’s 7th District City Council seat.

The San Diego Police Officers Association and the San Diego Association for Lifeguards are throwing their support behind the Del Cerro resident, who is a former U.S. Senate and Chamber of Commerce aide.

“I am very proud to be endorsed by our police and lifeguards,” Kostrinsky said. “I worked hard to help secure federal funding for law enforcement while working with Sen. Dianne Feinstein. As a council member, I look forward to continuing to fight for additional funding for pubic safety.”

Feinstein earlier this week announced that she, too, was endorsing Kostrinsky.  This marked the first time she has endorsed in a San Diego City Council race.

The San Diego Police Officers Association represents more than 1,800 members of the San Diego Police Department. In a letter to Kostrinsky, the board of directors wrote that officers “believe that your qualifications, character and support of law enforcement make you the best candidate.”

In a letter from the San Diego Association for Lifeguards, President and CEO James Gartland wrote, “Your experience and education combined with a willingness to work towards solutions gives us confidence that you will serve the citizens of San Diego well.”

Kostrinsky grew up in the San Diego communities of San Carlos and Del Cerro.  He attended Pershing Middle School, Patrick Henry High School and graduated from San Diego State University.  Mat and his wife, Jen, a family practice physician, are raising their two children in the same neighborhood where Mat grew up.
