BOCA RATON, FL (Press Release) – Jay Feinberg, founder and CEO of Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation (www.giftoflife.org), received the Maurice N. Eisendrath Bearer of Light Award at the 72nd URJ (Union for Reform Judaism) North American Biennial held in San Diego on December 12, 2013.

The award is in memory of Rabbi Maurice N. Eisendrath, the executive director and President of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations from 1943-1973. This award is the highest honor by the Jewish Reform Movement.

“To be recognized at this level is very humbling,” said Feinberg. “I am deeply grateful to have received this prestigious award, and I share it with everyone at Gift of Life who work so hard every day to help save people’s lives.”

Those who have been awarded this honor include Michael J. Fox, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Rabbi Richard Hirsch, and Abba Eban. Gift of Life advisor Evie Goldfine, a Gift of Life supporter and recipient of a stem cell donation, accepted the award on Feinberg’s behalf, who was unable to attend the ceremony. Highlights of the conference included live video feeds with Vice President Joe Biden, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Jay Feinberg was diagnosed with leukemia and in need of a bone marrow transplant to survive. In 1995, Jay found his match from the very last person at the very last donor drive. Since then, Jay’s story of transforming adversity into success has inspired more than 233,000 people to get tested and enter the marrow registry, and turning Gift of Life into one of the top international bone marrow registries in the world.
