SAN DIEGO–Nothing beats the convenience of sailing in and out of San Diego, whether it be to Asia, the South Pacific, Hawaii, South America, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal,  Mexico, or other miscellaneous destinations around the world.

If you’re lucky enough to live in San Diego, all you have to do is have someone drive you to the cruise ship terminal and away you go, without the hassle of having to fly to a destination city and transferring to the seaport.  If your cruise is roundtrip, then all the better, because when you come home, all you have to do is throw your bags and souvenirs into the trunk of your car and be on your way.  You don’t have to worry about squeezing everything into airline-acceptable luggage.

If you live somewhere other than San Diego, this wonderful port still has advantages for you.  The airport is so close to the cruise ship port that from the deck of your ship you can watch the planes lan ding.  That means you can get yourself settled aboard the ship and still have a little time for San Diego sightseeing.  One one side of the cruise ship terminal is the Maritime Museum, and on the other side is the the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier turned into a museum.  If you come in earlier in the day, you can take a quick cab ride to Balboa Park, with its many museums, or to the world-famous San Diego Zoo.

I am a travel agent accredited to Avoya Travel, which is an American Express affiliate. If you want dedicated service from someone determined to find you the very best accommodations and prices on cruises anywhere in the world from any port, please call me at (619) 265-2909, or contact me via email at nancy.harrison@avoyatravel.com

  1. Trying again:
I couldn’t agree with you more, Nancy, and have sailed out of San Diego, the city where I was raised, most often to Hawaii, Panama Canal and Mexico. In my adult life, I have taught dance classes (Israeli dance, international folk dance, ballroom, Latin, Country Line, even tap and ballet) on 39 cruise ships so far. I enjoy escorting groups out of San Francisco-closest port to my present home, though most often fly to ports throughout the world. Wherever I go, I attract many of my fellow Jews, and always include some Jewish sightseeing. Examples are: The sand floor Shue in St. Thomas-raked after each person leaves to hide footprints, harkening back to the Spanish Inquisition. The first Temple in Hawaii, Emanu-El, just off the Pali Highway on Oahu, is the shul my grandparents founded before WWII. My grandfather serving as the 1st president-where people are greeted with Shalomha (Shalom and Aloha). The Jewish cemetery in the center of a huge Japanese cemetery, was also founded by my grandparents, who are buried there-where a mistake led to nearly all grave stones after 1968 having identical writing on both sides. Curacao-where Jews sailing with Columbus including his navigator, are buried in one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in our hemisphere. My next cruise is Oct. 29, 2016 round trip from SF to 4 Hawaiian Islands, 15 days and under $2,000 pp double occupancy. I teach 6 hours of dance lessons on sea days and lead port excursions at cost for those who wish. Have a Steam Punk group going with me, so will include crafts, movies, evening salons and teach dances of the Victorian era too.
