Mayor, officials to serve at Harvey Milk American Diner

SAN DIEGO (Press Release)Harvey Milk’s American Diner will be participating in this year’s annual Dining Out For Life Thursday, April 24 and will have some of San Diego’s  leaders helping out during the day. Their guests include: San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and former City Council Member Carl DeMaio, who will be serving lunch.

For dinner, the guest list includes City Council President Todd Gloria, San Diego School Board President Kevin Beiser and Fernando Ponyboy Junior of the San Diego American Flag Football League.

The Honorary Mayor of Hillcrest and City Commissioner, Nicole Murray Ramirez. will be their Special Guest Host for lunch and dinner service.

Milk, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors when he was assassinated in 1978, was one of the first openly gay officeholders in the United States, as well as a member of the Jewish community.

Dining Out For Life is a nationwide annual fundraising event to help raise money for AIDS service organizations. Restaurants across the country donate at lest 25% of their proceeds on the specified date.

“The Harvey Milk American Diner operates under a license from the Milk Family. As total compensation for this license agreement, 1% of gross sales will go to the Harvey Milk Foundation, paid quarterly,” according to Frank Lechner, managing partner of the restaurant.

Harvey Milk’s American Diner is located in the “Heart of Hillcrest,” 535 University (at Sixth Avenue). Hours are 8 a.m. to midnight.
