SAN DIEGO (SDJW)– U-T reporters Lyndsay Winkley and Teri Figueroa teamed up on a story reporting on the aftermath of the wildfires that burned through San Diego County last week.  One vignette that caught our eye was an interview with the Rev. Chris Meredith of the  Harmony Grove Spiritualist Association, whose property was mostly destroyed, save for a pond and the koi swimming within it.  Surveying the damage, Meredith said: “If you go back 2,000 years, Moses got the burning bush.  We got a hell of a lot more than that. I think it’s a wake-up call.  We live in a very materialistic world … I think we sometimes forget the spiritual values of life.”

In the run-up to the June 3 election, there has been nearly blanket coverage in the U-T of the race for district attorney.  In the Monday, May 19 issue, Jeff MacDonald had a story on the financial disclosures of incumbent Bonnie Dumanis and her two challengers Robert Brewer and Terri Wyatt.  He reported that she has an investment worth up to $10,000 in Qualcomm.   Given that her salary is $253,000 per year, her campaign was asked why she had so few holdings.  Jennifer Tierney, spokeswoman for Dumanis, responded: “She supports her mother.  She also supported both her parents when her dad was alive.”
