APN condemns Israel’s approval of 1,084 homes

americans for peace now logoWASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release)  – In the face of international protest, Israel’s government is going ahead and approving plans for the construction of 1,084 new housing units in six West Bank settlements, including in outposts that were originally been built in violation of Israeli law and later legalized by the government, Americans for Peace Now said.

Details of the newly approved plans for more settlement construction were published on Thursday, June 12, by Israel’s Shalom Achshav (Peace Now) movement. Peace Now’s Settlement Watch project reported that the steps toward the  approval of more construction contradict press reports alleging that the government of Israel decided to halt new construction due to international pressure.

Americans for Peace Now (APN) strongly condemns Israel’s continued planning and construction in West Bank settlements. Every housing unit constructed in West Bank settlements further jeopardizes the viability of a future Israeli-Palestinian two-state peace agreement.
