FIDF launches campaign to aid Israel’s soldiers

FIDF logoNEW YORK (Press Release)– With Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops entering Gaza, and Operation Protective Edge in full force, Friends of the IDF (FIDF) has launched an emergency national campaign, entitled “FIDF Frontline Operation,” to secure the wellbeing of Israel’s soldiers. The IDF has issued a list of thousands of essential items for active duty and reserve IDF soldiers on the frontlines, and FIDF is aiming to meet all those needs.

FIDF has already been raising funds and distributing important personal items such as snack packages, toiletry kits, field towelettes, and undergarment kits to IDF soldiers on the ground. But as the situation continues to evolve and new urgent needs arise, it becomes increasingly clear that the work is not yet done. FIDF has expanded its efforts to meet the specific needs of the soldiers.

Maj. Gen. (Res.) Yitzhak (Jerry) Gershon, FIDF National Director and CEO, who served in the IDF for more than three decades, said Israel’s soldiers are on the front lines protecting the Jewish State from terror, and so need the support of global Jewry as well.

“I know that they are doing whatever it takes to serve as the shield between Israel’s civilians and the threat of terror facing them,” Gershon said. “And I know firsthand that during these critical moments, when they are putting their lives on the line, the soldiers appreciate our support more than ever. It is incumbent upon us to show them we are with them. It is our privilege and duty to support these soldiers as they stand willing and able to carry out their mission on behalf of our resilient Jewish Nation.”

IDF Operation Protective Edge was launched on July 8th in response to the escalation of rocket attacks on Israeli civilians by Hamas. Over 1,500 rockets have been fired at Israel in the past week, including at major population centers. Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has intercepted many of the missiles, and some have landed in open areas, but an increasing number of missiles have caused damage and grave injuries.
