SAN DIEGO (Press Release)–Temple Emanu-El plans two special Shabbat celebrations in August, to which the public is invited.

First, on Friday, August 15, at 6 p.m. a Shabbat service in the temple’s sanctuary (6299 Capri Drive) will be followed by free hot dogs and s’mores in the courtyard. The event caters to new and prospective members, providing an opportunity to learn about the temple and get acquainted with the congregation. For prospective members, a “buddy” will be available. Members of the congregation will give tours of the Temple and schools upon request.

Two weeks later, on August 29, at 6 p.m., at Ventura Cove on Mission Bay, an outdoor service will be conducted.  Participants are advised to bring a picnic dinner, a lawn chair and/or blanket and a jacket or sweater. No alcohol or glass is allowed.  Ventura Cove is in along the 1100 block of West Mission Bay.

Temple Emanu-El is a Reform Jewish Congregation that is affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism. It serves approximately 450 family and single members.  Its educational, social, spiritual and cultural programs are designed to cultivate a sense of family and community for all ages. The synagogue is locatedoff Interstate 8 at the College Avenue exit.
