General Amidror joins Gemunder Center

Yaacov AmidrorWASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release)– Israel’s former National Security Advisor Major General Yaacov Amidror (ret.) has joined the Gemunder Center for Defense and Strateg  as a Senior Advisor. In his new position with JINSA, Maj. Gen. Amidror will provide expert policy guidance and share his extensive knowledge with other Gemunder Center leaders as well as the public.

JINSA CEO Dr. Michael Makovsky stated: “We are thrilled to have Maj. Gen. Amidror, who is highly regarded across the world, join JINSA’s Gemunder Center for Defense and Strategy as Senior Advisor. He is an expert on a wide range of military and policy issues involving Israel, the Middle East and the world. He will add to the Gemunder Center’s important voice on military and security issues.”

As National Security Advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and head of Israel’s National Security Council, Maj. Gen. Amidror was one of the Prime Minister’s leading advisors. He was instrumental in high-level talks between the U.S. and Israel over the Iranian nuclear program and supervised efforts to keep Hezbollah from obtaining Russian missile systems.

Maj. Gen. Amidror retired from active duty in 2002 after serving as the commander of the IDF’s National Defense College. He has also served as the head of the Research Department of Israeli military intelligence where he was responsible for preparing Israel’s National Intelligence Assessment. He has written articles for newspapers in Israel as well as the New York Times and is a researcher at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and a senior fellow at the Begin-Sadat Center in Bar-Ilan University.
