Five more for the Women’s Hall of Fame

womens-hall-of-fame-logoSAN DIEGO (SDJW) — Each year the San Diego County Women’s Hall of Fame honors five women who have been particularly outstanding in their field.  At least eleven of the past 81 selectees have come from the Jewish community, among them: Dee Aker,  Barbara Bry, Bonnie Dumanis, Gracia Molina de Pick, Judy Forman, Gloria Harris, Ruth Heifetz, Vivian Reznick, Lynn Schenk, Jean Stern and Deborah Szekely.

Even though our community is quite well represented, there are some Jewish women in the public eye whose names certainly deserve to be joined with those of the others. We refer specifically  to Congresswoman Susan Davis, San Diego Schools Superintendent Cindy Marten,  San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman, City Councilwoman Marti Emerald, and former Mayor Susan Golding.  We hope the selection board will consider all five of these women as exemplars to other women that there is indeed room at the top.

And while we are on the subject, San Diego Jewish World is happy to endorse Susan Davis for reelection this coming November.

If anyone would care to nominate any of these women officially (the deadline is Oct. 15) for the San Diego County Women’s Hall of Fame, here is a link to the nomination form:   Clearly, any and all of these women deserve the honor.
