Rabbi Josh Burrows affixes mezuzah at JCoSD offices

CARLSBAD, California (Press Release) — The Jewish Collaborative of San Diego (JCoSD) has dedicated its offices and temporary sanctuary at 5297 Balfour Ct, Suite 203, with a ceremony affixing the mezuzot on outdoor and inside doorways.

Led by Rabbi Josh Burrows and Rabbi/ Cantor Gabi Arad , husband and wife, the new congregation forms chavurot based on such interests as art or meditation, rather than along geographic or gender lines.

Rabbi Burrows said for some Jews, a mezuzah “reminds them that wherever they are, God is with them. For others it signifies that their home is a Jewish one, filled with all the wonderful things that Judaism has to offer. Jews have been hanging mezuzot on the doorposts of their homes for thousands of years.”

Rabbi/ Cantor Arad told assembled well-wishers that “as we hang the mezuzot on each doorpost, we collaboratively decided what we don’t want to enter our dorrways –things such as gossip, greed, jealousy, hate and anger. We then blessed our new home with the things we’d like for it to be filled with: love, joy, kids, companionship, friendship, God, understanding, compassion and spirituality. By taking the moment to dedicate our space, we took the moment to decide who we are as a community and what kind of home we’d like to have. The new JCo facility is now a place of love, warmth and community.”
