Humoring the Headlines: November 16, 2014

SAN DIEGO─ Congressional Republicans are outraged that President Obama plans to issue Executive Orders liberalizing immigration policy during the lame duck period between the elections and the inauguration of the next House and Senate.  Obama justifies his actions as an appropriate response to the last two years of a dead duck Congress.

A Dutch team of investigators finally began removing the wreckage of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17 from the site where it crashed.  When asked if he thought debris from the plane had been tampered with by the pro-Russian Ukrainian rebels in the past 5 months, the head of the team indicated he did find it suspicious that copies of a Ukrainian government top secret document ordering that the plane be shot down were scattered across the crash site.

Jonathan Gruber who helped in the drafting of the Affordable Care Act admitted that none of the law’s provisions were transparent because the American public is stupid.  In spin control mode, unnamed officials in the Obama Administration did not deny the charge but said that the House and Senate were even more stupid for not reading the bill before they voted on it.

Residents of Ferguson, Missouri have been purchasing guns and boarding up their windows in anticipation of violence if the Grand Jury does not indict the officer who killed Michael Brown. While the racial tension in the city has been bad for the city’s image, it certainly has been good for gun shops and the construction industry.
