SAN DIEGO — Israeli Food Critic Gil Hovav, who is a great-grandson of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, the founder of modern Hebrew, will be the featured speaker at an event showcasing Israeli foods. At 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, he will lecture at the Bottles & Wood, 5039 Shawline Street in the Kearny Mesa neighborhood of San Diego.

Jennie Starr, founder of one of the sponsoring organizations, Tarbuton, said: “When the Israeli American Council in Los Angeles, provided the opportunity to bring Gil Hovav to San Diego, program managers, Amy Scher and Liron Scherson considered what else would make an evening with Gil a hit. Having a food critic without the food seemed a wasted opportunity. Liron Scherson said, ‘We know we have a lot of Food Network fans in our community, and the Middle Feast Food Truck in LA – winner of the Great Food Race –was a great choice to add to this program! Wrapping in local vendors gave us a real opportunity to support them and give participants a local fix for amazing Israeli food.”

Tickets purchased via web are $12, at the door $17.   Reservations and tickets may be obtained on the Tarbuton website.
