SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The Men’s Club of Beth Israel of San Diego hosts Dr. Albert Ray as its featured speaker at the May 20th Dinner Forum. Dr. Ray’s presentation will cover the subject “Sex and the Torah, for Adult Audiences.”

Ray received his B.A. in 1969 from Brooklyn College.  He attended the Faculty of Medicine, Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium and was awarded the M.D. degree in 1976.  His internship was performed at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada in 1976.  A residency in Family Medicine was completed at the Jewish General Hospital, McGill University, Montreal, Canada in 1978. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine in the United States and Canada.

He has been a Family Physician since 1978 with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group at Kaiser Permanente, San Diego.  He is Partner Emeritus at the Kaiser Permanente Positive Choice Wellness Center in San Diego, Medical Director for Kaiser Permanente California Member Services, and Medical Director of Kaiser Permanente Insurance Company. He has served as Assistant Chief in the Department of Family Medicine, is a Past President of Kaiser Foundation Hospital, San Diego, and was an elected member of the Southern California Permanente Medical Group Board of Directors from 1997-2008.

He is also a Clinical Professor, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at UCSD School of Medicine.  He served as President of the San Diego Academy of Family Physicians and President of the San Diego County Medical Society. Ray is a Trustee of the California Medical Association, Chair of the California Delegation to the American Medical Association, and is a member of the San Diego County Medical Society Foundation Board of Directors.

Ray is the author of many articles on Prevention, Health Promotion, Patient Education, Obesity and Tobacco Cessation. He was California Family Physician of the Year in 2002. He was voted “Top Doctor” in Family Medicine in San Diego by San Diego Magazine.

A member of Congregation Beth Israel, Ray has taught classes at the congregation for over 20 years on Hebrew, Judaism, Talmud and Kabbalah.  He was also honored last year as one of the “Volunteers of the Year” because of his extensive active role in Temple activities.
