LA JOLLA, California (Press Release) — J* Company Youth Theatre launches its final production of Season 22 with the brilliant musical classic, West Side Story. Music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Arthur Laurents. Directed by Joey Landwehr, West Side Story is the award-winning adaptation of the classic romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet.

Transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between two street gangs – the “American” Jets led by Riff and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time.. This production is performed with a full live orchestra to bring the masterful music to life.

Featured in the cast are Rebecca Penner (Maria); Cameron Chang (Tony); Nogo Tour (Anita) and Jonas McMullen (Riff). The production includes 55 youth cast members.
