SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – The Jewish Federation of San Diego County is mobilizing a communal response to the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal and caused widespread destruction throughout Southern Asia earlier this week.

100 % of all donations will go directly to those affected by the earthquake. There will be no administrative fee, and all donations will go to critical medical relief and supplies in the hardest-hit areas.
In coordination with local and governmental authorities in Nepal and India, the Federation’s global partners at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) have been on the ground since Monday.
With the death toll at more than 4,300 and rising, aid is needed now more than ever. Lives are shattered, villages completely demolished, search and rescue missions for survivors continue throughout the region’s mostly mountainous landscapes, and most areas are without electricity, food, and water. Tragically, this is one of the deadliest and catastrophic natural disasters that the region has seen in more than 80 years.
Federation and its on the ground partners are working with the Israeli Defense Forces and their field hospitals, which have been set up in severely damaged areas to serve the thousands of injured citizens by providing medical care and equipment, including two neo-natal incubators. Federation and partners are collaborating with UNICEF to collect supplies, build shelter for children, and provide basic nutrition, water, and sanitation needs. Other global partners collaborating to provide and distribute emergency relief include Tevel B’Tzedek, the All-India Disaster Mitigation Institute, and Sarvodaya.
Jewish Federations have a proud tradition of supporting the Jewish communal response to disasters around the world and at home, raising tens of millions of dollars for emergency assistance and longer-term aid.
“Our hearts go out to all those who were in the path of this disaster and to all those who are grieving the loss of their loved ones,” said Michael Sonduck, President and CEO of Federation. “This was a terrible tragedy, and while our partners at the JDC are on the ground providing direct relief, San Diego will not stand idly by.”
