LA JOLLA, California (Press Release) — J* Company Youth Theatre kicks off the 23rd season with the joyful Mary Poppins. “One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is capturing hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect musical!” says director Joey Landwehr.
Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, Mary Poppins received seven Tony Awards. With its irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft, even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it,” according to Landwehr.
The director added that the production at the Lawrence Family JCC features a cast of 92 young artists and a dedicated crew of 16 youngsters working behind the scenes.
Featured in the cast will be Gabi Leibowitz, Mitchell Mapes, Mikel Lemoine, Mia Bregman, Nika Sadr and Kourosh Sadr. Play dates and times are: Saturday, October 17, 8pm; Sunday, October 18, 1 & 4:30pm; Saturday, October 24, 8pm; Sunday, October 25, 1 & 4:30pm; and Sunday, November 1, 1 & 4:30pm
