SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The Men’s Club of Beth Israel of San Diego will host Mark and Frank Powell as featured speakers at its December 16 Dinner Forum. Their presentation will focus on a project they are spearheading regarding a World War II Holocaust Memorial to honor the Liberation of Holocaust Survivors.

The brothers established the United States Military Liberation of Holocaust Survivors Memorial Corporation and have assembled an impressive group of supporters and advisers to move the Memorial forward. At this educational and engaging meeting, attendees will have the opportunity to preview the actual Memorial model.

The goal is to have the memorial in place by next summer. The proposed site is Tuna Harbor Park, just off Harbor Drive near the USS Midway. “We chose this location to highlight that the Army’s connection with San Diego is as strong as the Navy’s. The Army played an enormous and vital role in San Diego during World War II and should be acknowledged for its contributions.”

“We need a memorial acknowledging the U.S. military’s ongoing commitment to fighting for freedom and fighting against genocide worldwide,” memorial board President Mark Powell said. “The brave United States Army soldiers who liberated concentration camps saved countless lives.”
