LA JOLLA, California (Press Release)– J* Company Youth Theatre is starting 2016 off on a whimsical note with its family-friendly production of Seussical, Jr. – a fantastical, magical musical extravaganza featuring Horton the Elephant and many other favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including The Cat In the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie, the Wickersham Brothers, and all of the Whos of Whoville!

TONY winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought these cherished characters to life in a most “Suess-tastic” production directed by J* Company’s accomplished Artistic Director, Joey Landwehr with a cast and crew of over 77 children, ages 7 through 15.

Known for their colorful characters, witty rhymes and moral messages, Dr. Seuss’ stories play out in a journey for truth and equality as the honorable Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust inhabited by tiny people called the Whos, embarks on a mission to protect the Whos from adversity – despite facing danger, kidnapping, and a trial. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and acceptance are challenged and emerge triumphant!

The show’s message can be summed up with one of Dr.’ Seuss’ most famous lines, “A person’s a person no matter how small.”

“There was always a lesson to be learned in Dr. Seuss’s books,” said Landwehr, “And those lessons are still relevant, if not more so, in today’s world. We’re proud to have our talented cast of kids presenting these lessons in what will certainly be an inspiring and enjoyable performance.”

Performances of Seussical, Jr. will run from January 15 -31, 2016. Tickets are $16 for children and JCC Members and $18 for non-members. For more information and to purchase tickets, call the JCC Box Office at 858-362-1348 or visit www.jcompanysd.org.

Featured in the cast are Amber Bartlett, Zoe Goldstein, Riley Hull, Drew McMullen, Julia Price, and Ella Serrano.
