SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — Congregation Beth Israel will host its annual Spring Gala that features a 1920’s “Let’s Play” theme and includes an evening of play and entertainment by actress Debra Wanger. Dan Cohen, the Emmy Award winning co-anchor of CBS News This Morning, will emcee the event. The gala begins at 5:30 p.m.,  Sunday, May 22, at Congregation Beth Israel.

The Spring Gala features a silent auction, speakeasy-inspired cocktails, wine, craft beer tasting, and a delicious dinner. In keeping with the “Let’s Play” theme, guests will be invited to play games of badminton, croquet or take a swing on a putting green.

Wanger will provide the evening’s entertainment, including several songs from her award-winning performances. The San Diego actress won Billie, Pate and AASD Festival Awards for her San Diego theater and cabaret appearances. San Diego theater audiences may recognize her onstage from God of Vengeance at La Jolla Playhouse; Footloose, Sound of Music, La Cage Aux Folles and White Christmas at San Diego Musical Theatre; Spring Awakening, Dogfight, Evita, and My Fair Lady at Cygnet Theatre in Old Town. She has also been featured in Berlin to Brooks and the Richard Rodgers Centennial Celebration at the University of Judaism.

“The Spring Gala is a wonderful celebration of what Beth Israel is all about—the community of individuals and families who make this congregation a part of their lives. It will be a beautiful night,” said Beth Israel’s Senior Rabbi Michael Berk. “From our committee members to sponsors, the evening is a celebration for the entire Beth Israel community,”

Proceeds from the Beth Israel Spring Gala will support the congregation’s mission to open doors to all who seek a connection to Judaism.

A Reform Jewish synagogue, Beth Israel is San Diego’s oldest and largest Jewish congregation and has a membership of about 1,100 families. ###
