News of Israel’s friends in the Western Pacific: Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, and Palau

NEW YORK (Press Release) – In an effort to assist Palau confront its severe water shortage, AJC has made a donation to the Pacific Island nation to help build a new desalination system. Israel will be providing the equipment and technical support.

Palau President Tommy Remengesau declared a state of emergency in March, and the Ngerikill Dam, the only remaining natural water source in the country, has been shut down. Water rationing is common throughout the country.

“We are pleased to join with Palau and Israel in making a meaningful contribution to the well-being of the Palauan people,” said Shira Loewenberg, director of AJC’s Asia Pacific Institute. “Israeli technology can make a critical difference in alleviating the drought conditions, demonstrating once again the longstanding, solid Israel-Palau relationship.”
