Campus hate incidents cause ADL ‘grave concern’

SAN DIEGO  (Press Release)–The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Friday expressed grave concern about two hate incidents which occurred on two of San Diego’s university campuses.

At U.C. San Diego, anti-Semitic and hateful graffiti — which included a red painted swastika and the words “Heil Trump” –were found at a main trolley stop on campus.

At San Diego State University a Muslim student wearing a hijab reported that two men making comments about Mr. Trump and Muslims robbed her. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime.

“We are horrified by these hateful incidents,” said Tammy Gillies, Regional Director of ADL’s San Diego office “Violence and property damage have no place in our society. When individuals are targeted because of personal characteristics like race, religion and national origin, these crimes send a message of intolerance and hate to the entire community. It is our collective responsibility to respond with a countervailing message and ensure that this behavior is unacceptable. We look forward to quick investigations from law enforcement and we urge all community members to answer the call to work towards a more civil and inclusive community.”
