SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — With a mission to share the holiday joy with San Diego’s homeless community, Teens About Goodness (TAG), a community-based humanitarian teen initiative, coordinated a Thanksgiving food drive, distributing hundreds of warm food packages to San Diego’s homeless population.

Teen volunteers gathered on Thanksgiving eve to pack 500 gift bags, each labeled “TAG: You’re it. Now it’s your turn – do something nice for a stranger”. They filled the bags with authentic Thanksgiving foods – gourmet fresh baked pies and pastas, with diabetes and nutritional information printed on each product – as well as Sustainable Giving products: umbrellas and ponchos to provide shelter from the rain. Their Thanksgiving morning was then dedicated to
distributing the packages across downtown San Diego’s homeless community, bringing holiday smiles to many grateful people.

“TAG’S motto is ‘Do one nice thing every day that is out of your comfort zone’,” explains Musy New, Director of TAG and coordinator of Giving & Thanks 500. “Aside for utilizing Thanksgiving to reflect on the things we we are grateful for, we wanted to ensure that other, less fortunate people, had what to be grateful for as well.”

Teen leaders Stephie Weinstein and Lauren Vayser coordinated the logistical details of the project, and accompanied the teens to the various downtown locations. “It was truly amazing to see what these teens accomplished,” New says. “Every person we met was overwhelmed with gratitude. From street to street we brought smiles to people’s faces.”

TAG is the humanitarian arm of the Youth Action Movement, a Jewish teen community organization servicing Jewish High School students. Youth Action Movement offers a range of different community programs, including educational classes, social gatherings, and holiday programming.
