Students plant olive tree for Tu B’Shevat

Students of the Abraham Ratner Torah School at Tifereth Israel Synagogue in San Diego help to plant an olive tree for Tu B’Shevat under the watchful eyes of Men’s Club President Bill Sperling (right) and Vice President Bob Holloway. Prior to the planting Holloway told some of the history of olive trees, distributed olives for the students to taste, and gave them cuttings of an olive tree branch. After the planting, the Conservative congregation’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Leonard Rosenthal, led the students in recitation of the shehekiyanu prayer, thanking God for allowing them all to arrive at that moment.
