The late Sy Brenner reflected on Memorial Day

The late Sy Brenner was a prisoner in a German prisoner-of-war camp, where his Jewish identity was not known because a battlefield comrade had broken off the bottom of Sy’s dogtag, on which “H” for “Hebrew” identified his religious preference. Sy wrote about his experiences in the memoir titled “The Night I Got Killed.” He had been honored as Veteran of the Year in San Diego County, and was a frequent speaker at schools and civic gatherings.
