Week- long ‘Jewish Xperience’ planned Oct. 21-27

SAN DIEGO (Press Release)– For several years in San Diego and across the globe for one weekend, Jews in 1500 cities in 97 countries have come together to experience a personally meaningful Shabbat, build community connections and be a part of the worldwide pride, identity and solidarity.

This year, the Shabbat San Diego leadership team has taken on the audacious goal, along with more than 300 volunteers, of providing a broad Jewish Xperience for a full week (October 21st through 27th leading up to Shabbat San Diego).

Filled with innovative channels for those of all backgrounds and affiliations interested in Judaism, there will be engaging opportunities to experience the joys and wisdom of enriched cultural and social events. This effort is coordinated and planned in conjunction with over 120 participating local congregations, schools, youth groups and community organizations throughout San Diego.

“For the first time, we’ve turbocharged our Shabbat San Diego into a full week of eclectic and exciting activities designed to strengthen participation in our growing Jewish Community. Known as Jewish Xperience Week, this week with over 90 unique mostly free events, will have activities that are sure to appeal to any age group,” said Sharleen Wollach, the co-chair of the Jewish Xperience.

The events, celebrations, lectures and social gatherings, will encompass four days of experiences that emphasize inclusivity and cooperation for all ages, types of observance, affiliations or non-affiliations, political views, cultural differences and life style choices. The goal is to provide exceptional opportunities to engage as a community in activities relating to Judaic culture, heritage and traditions. These four days will be followed by three days of participation in Shabbat San Diego, part of the world-wide Shabbat Project in advancing the goal of “Keeping it Together.”

“The Jewish Xperience is all about Connecting Community; by celebrating culture, heritage and ritual of a 6000 year tradition; through diverse events for anyone interested in Judaism; geographically dispersed around county; includes arts/films; health/wellness; Jewish history; science and technology; learning; and kids activities,” explained Darren Schwartz, a co-chair of the entire program.

A smattering of these unique self-growth and learning opportunities are “Little Mensches,” uniting our 4-8 year olds with seniors in a fun and meaningful way for both. How about learning about your gene pool and your propensity to genetic conditions? Or join one of six Challah Bakes being held in Oceanside, UTC, East County, College area, Chula Vista, Mid-town and Tijuana. This year’s theme is “Those who bake together, rise together.” And enjoy the free Unity Concert featuring the Israeli band, InJoy.

These and many more event tracks await you and the more than 20,000 San Diegans expected to participate in this unique Jewish Xperience week, one of the largest Jewish community programs in the history of San Diego.
