Library presents lecture on Anne Frank’s father

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – As part of the 2012 One Book, One San Diego reading campaign the San Diego Public Library is pleased to present Cara Wilson-Granat, the author of Dear Cara – Letters from Otto Frank on Monday, May 7 at 6:30 pm in the Wangenheim Room of the Central Library located at 820 E Street in downtown San Diego. This event is free and open to the public.

A longtime friend of Otto Frank, the father of Anne Frank, the author shares the wisdom and insights of her mentor’s experiences through their 20 year friendship. The two finally met in person two years before his death in 1980. Their correspondence and friendship began when the author was a teenager when she was one of the youths picked by talent scouts to audition for the original Diary of Anne Frank movie. This story of an American teenager’s connection to the Swiss-based Otto is one of the last living links to the Frank family’s extraordinary story.

One Book, One San Diego is a six-year-old partnership between KPBS and the San Diego Public Library with a mission to bring San Diegans together through an enriching, locally-relevant literary experience. The program consists of a series of author events, film screenings and book discussions from January through July. Under this year’s theme, “Around the World with One Book,” the program features three books: Sky of Red Poppies by Zoe Ghahremani, Moloka’i by Alan Brennert, and Into the Beautiful North by best-selling author Luis Alberto Urrea. It is made possible by the following funders: Linden Root Dickinson Foundation, Lloyd Pest Control, the Samuel I. and John Henry Fox Foundation and Cubic Corporation.
