Former soldier appeals to CUFI for Israel support

By Dan Brodsky

SPRING VALLEY, California — Father’s House Church here was host Wednesday, Oct. 24, to an inspiring  event featuring Keynote Speaker Sgt. Benjamin Anthony, a 32-year-old reserve IDF combat veteran.  The sponsoring organization was Christians United for Israel (CUFI).

Anthony, who arrived in Israel in 2004, was a heavy machinegun operator who served on the front lines in several Israeli campaigns.  It was obvious, from his impassioned and powerful speech, that he takes his job very seriously.  He brought his combat experiences, as well as his pride in the IDF, to the audience… up close and personal; he doesn’t mince words.

After his release from full time active duty, Anthony started an Israel advocacy organization … Our Soldiers Speak, the purpose of which is to educate and motivate.  (www.oursouldersspeak.org)

He, along with other former IDF soldiers, now travels the free world bringing their inspiration to numerous universities, highs schools, and Jewish communities. Anthony brought to us the vital message that Israel must be defended and supported in every possible way.  Although Israel has never asked the United States to provide soldiers to fight along side the IDF, Anthony urged Jews and gentiles of America to redouble our efforts and continue to lend our vital financial and material support.  He said, “Loan us the tools.” He pointed out that much of the American aid comes back to the USA in the form of trade, military and security know-how, and jobs.

Pastor Greg Stephens, the leader and spiritual head of Father’s House Church, is no stranger to the San Diego Jewish community.  In addition to his church duties, he volunteers to serve as CUFI Southern California Director.  You will always see Israeli flags in his church.  His devotion to Israel, along with that of his congregants, is unwavering.

Pastor John Hagee, president and CEO of CUFI and CUFI on Campus, is also no stranger, having presided over the first A Night to Honor Israel a few years ago in San Diego. CUFI is a non-conversional Christian organization, the largest pro-Israel organization in the world, now with over one million members in America.

From the opening Hatikva and Star Spangled Banner, to the close of the question and answer session, about hundred Christians and about thirty-five Jews were not disappointed.

Sgt. Benjamin Anthony told us one thing that we already knew… that the Israelis are a great people.
