SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — Local students display their work at the “Dare to Reuse” Art Exhibition being held at the New Children’s Museum running through August 28, 2013. The contest and exhibition are sponsored by the City of San Diego’s Environmental Services Department, WAXIE Sanitary Supply, Inc., and the New Children’s Museum.
“WAXIE Sanitary Supply is honored to once again be a sponsor of the City of San Diego’s “Dare to Reuse” art contest and exhibit. The recognition and promotion of the important concepts of reducing, reusing and recycling coincides with WAXIE’s core values. WAXIE is a proud, locally owned company striving to promote sustainability and support young creative minds of San Diego” said Rick Hawkins, WAXIE Sales Manager. Charles and David Wax, active members of the San Diego Jewish community, are the co-owners of the company which operates in nine Western states.
To demonstrate the value of reusing resources, the Dare to Reuse artists use other peoples’ “throw away” materials such as paper, glass, metals and wood to create art pieces including painting, sculpture and even a model house.
Dare to Reuse started out as an exhibition among professional artists in the San Diego region and has evolved into a contest among students at City of San Diego schools, ages fourth through twelfth grades.
The top thirteen winners are chosen to be in an on-line calendar on the ESD website, and this is the first time that these pieces will be on exhibit at a one-of-a-kind museum that provides inventive and engaging art experiences that are meaningful to children and families.
