College scholarships offered for high school entrepreneurs

SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – For the second year, applications are now available for the Jeffrey D. Sollender Business and Philanthropic Youth Entrepreneurship Scholarship Program at the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego. The program was established in 2012 by Elyse K. Sollender in memory of her late husband, Jeff Sollender, a renaissance man who always put his family first. Scholarships recognize innovative, college-bound students who have created and maintained their own commercial or social enterprises.

“Jeff was a highly accomplished and creative entrepreneur with boundless energy and optimism who was always available to help others in pursuit of their dreams,” said Elyse Sollender. “It is so meaningful to honor his memory and achievements by acknowledging and supporting the entrepreneurial spirit of talented students.”

Scholarships from the fund are available to graduating high school seniors of all faiths in San Diego who are planning to attend two- or four-year colleges or universities.  Eligible students must be actively involved in running their own small businesses or social ventures for at least one year. Students must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Scholarship funds may be applied to the cost of college tuition and books. Awards are made yearly and may be renewed if requirements are met and funds are available. The deadline to submit applications is February 15, 2014.

The Sollender family partners with the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego for its experience in generational philanthropy, flexibility in giving and commitment to matching donors with community needs.
