WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release)– House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Virginia) released the following statement Friday, May 2, on a House Select Committee on Benghazi, which House Speaker John Boehner said he planned to create if the House membership approves next week.
“For nearly two years, House committees have aggressively investigated what happened the night four brave Americans were killed in Benghazi, and the Obama Administration’s reaction to that terrorist attack.,” Cantor said in a statement. “Despite White House stonewalling, our committees have uncovered a great deal of information that gives cause to the grave concerns expressed by countless Americans. I’m proud of our committees’ work.
“Unfortunately, the Obama Administration’s continued obstruction has made clear that it is time for a House Select Committee to force the Administration to end its stonewalling and come clean to congressional investigators, an inquiring media, and the American public.
“In the days after four Americans were killed by terrorists, President Obama’s advisors orchestrated a campaign to deceive their fellow Americans as to what occurred, and we deserve to know why. I thank Chairmen Issa, McKeon, Rogers, and Royce for their steadfast conviction, and I know we will all continue to build on their incredible efforts.”
