MASAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan (Press Release) – U.S. Rep. Susan Davis (D-San Diego) and a bipartisan group of congresswomen celebrated Mother’s Day with the servicemembers in Afghanistan.
Davis, Ranking Member of the Military Personnel Subcommittee, led the delegation trip with U.S. Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL). Joining Davis and Roby were Reps. Niki Tsongas (D-MA), Renee Ellmers (R-NC), and Cheri Bustos (D-IL).
The Congresswomen hosted female servicemembers for a Mother’s Day luncheon where they discussed the challenges facing mothers deployed in service to their country.
The delegation also delivered Mother’s Day cards to female servicemembers stationed at the forward operating base. The cards were handmade by elementary students from the Congresswomen’s districts.
This marks Davis’s ninth trip to Afghanistan. Davis initiated the first Mother’s Day trip in 2009 and has returned every year since.
