WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release)–Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Kentucky) said Thursday, May 21, that “the allegations of delayed and deferred care at VA medical facilities, as well as separate waiting lists and other strategies that obscure the truth, are absolutely shameful.

“While the VA inspector general continues to investigate links between wait times and veterans’ deaths, we already know there are unacceptable deficiencies in our system. And with more veterans than ever using VA medical facilities, Congress and the administration must also reassess the federal investment in veterans’ health to ensure they get the care they need – when they need it.

“After fighting for our nation, no veteran should have to fight for health care. I will continue working to ensure we honor our commitments to our veterans, who have more than earned that support.”

On Wednesday, May 21, Yarmuth voted in favor of H.R. 4031, which would give the VA Secretary the authority to fire officials responsible for any misconduct in this situation or others.
