SAN DIEGO (Press Release) Harvey Milk’s American Diner, located at 535 University Avenue,  will  host the San Diego Pride Military Contingent Committee’s first annual fundraising extravaganza Thursday, May 29 2014 from 6-8 p.m.

The purpose of the fundraiser is to help raise money for the Military Contingent to help cover the cost of providing T-shirts for those active duty service members and veterans who will be marching in the 40th anniversary edition of the annual San Diego Pride parade.

“It’s a fitting honor to be hosting this fundraiser here at Harvey Milk’s American Diner, located at the gateway to San Diego’s historically LGBT Hillcrest neighborhood,” said Harvey Milk’s American Diner managing partner, Frank Lechner.

“Harvey was in the Navy and stationed in San Diego. San Diego is a proud military town and the diner is proud to be a part of the effort to make sure our service members in the 40th Annual San Diego Pride parade are looking and feeling like the heroes they are.”

In 2011, the San Diego Pride Military Contingent became the first LGBT Pride parade contingent in the nation to be established specifically for military service members and veterans to march openly as lesbian, gay, bi and transgender Americans.

Ever since, the contingent has been a key part of the signature event that is the San Diego LGBT Pride Parade.

“We are proud to honor those who have served our country…” said Lechner. “…both here and abroad; and we provide this opportunity to recognize them during San Diego’s largest civic event.”
