SAN DIEGO (SDJW) — The defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in a Virginia Republican primary was the lead story which the U-T culled from the Associated Press and The Washington Post. It quoted Cantor’s victorious opponent, tea party factionist David Brat, as exulting: “This is a miracle from God that just happened.” Brent Bozell, chairman of the conservative group ForAmerica proclaimed “Eric Cantor’s loss tonight is an apocalyptic moment for the GOP establishment.” … Makes you wonder when the only Jewish Republican in either House of Congress is defeated that you get this pair of religious quotes.

She’s baaaack … In its “People” column, the U-T reported that Barbara Walters, who left The View in what seemed like retirement, will be doing a special interview with the father of Elliot Rodger, the crazed young man who killed three people with knives and three with guns in Isla Vista before killing himself.

Ehud Kadar and his wife, Elena Yarritu, the principal flutist of the La Jolla Symphony, received a nice write-up from the U-T’s Pam Kragen for mentoring a young musician Carlos Aguilar, now 18. To enable him to live and breathe the flute, Kadar and his wife provided housing for Aguilar, with the permission of his parents who live in Escondido. Their protégé will give a free concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Studio-West, 11021 Via Frontera Road, in the Rancho Bernardo section of San Diego.

Stephen Goldsmith, the former Republican mayor of Indianapolis, advised former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on ways New York City could save money, and now he’s doing similar consulting for Mayor Kevin Faulconer of San Diego. The U-T’s David Garrick, in a story about simplifying San Diego’s “managed competition” program, quotes Goldsmith as saying “I’ve been at this a couple decades, and I don’t think I’ve seen a process so tedious and exasperating as San Diego’s.”
