WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release) —Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein (D-California) on Tuesday, June 17,  released the following statement on the capture of Abu Khatallah in Benghazi, Libya:

“I am pleased the United States has captured Abu Khatallah, one of the terrorists believed to be responsible for the September 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack that killed four brave Americans. It remains important that we bring to justice all of the terrorists responsible for that horrendous attack.

“I congratulate the military, intelligence and law enforcement personnel whose dedicated work made this capture successful. This capture is a reminder of the remarkable capabilities of the United States and its commitment to justice and accountability. The United States and Libya are both safer now that Abu Khatallah is off the streets.

“I fully support the administration’s efforts to gather intelligence from Abu Khatallah and prosecute him in federal court. Past cases against terrorists like Abu Khatallah have shown that we can obtain intelligence, convict terrorists and lock them away for a very long time. The U.S. criminal justice system has successfully convicted over 500 terrorists since 9/11, and I have full confidence in the ability of our federal courts.”
