
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Press Release) U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel spoke via telephone on Monday, June 23, with Israeli Minister of Defense Moshe “Boogie” Ya’alon, according to Hagel’s spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby.
“Minister Ya’alon provided the secretary with an update on recent developments, including the kidnapping of Israeli teenagers in the West Bank and Sunday’s cross-border incident that killed an Israeli teenager and wounded two other Israelis. Secretary Hagel offered his sympathies for those affected by the violence in the Golan Heights, pledged our continued support, and expressed his shared concern over the violence in Syria and Iraq. He also updated Minister Ya’alon on U.S. views on the events unfolding in the Middle East.
“The two leaders agreed to continue working closely with one another on the broad range of security issues facing the United States and Israel.”
