SAN DIEGO (Press Release) – The Jewish Community Foundation Board of Directors has announced the appointment of Jane Scher as Board Chair as of July 1. A statement from the Jewish Community Foundation added the following:
“Jane’s leadership experience spans 13 years as a Foundation board member, including serving as Vice Chair and Secretary. Jane succeeds Jeff Silberman, who led the Foundation for two significant years, including the past fiscal year when the Foundation’s grantmaking exceeded $100 million and assets exceeded the $300 million mark for the first time.
“Jane was the founding chair of the Foundation’s Endowment Leadership Institute. The Institute is a highly successful program that has resulted in significant endowments and bequests for Jewish organizations and synagogues in San Diego.
“’Jane is a strong leader who has an inspiring record of achievements both locally and nationally,’ said Marjory Kaplan, Foundation President and CEO, Miriam and Jerome Katzin Presidential Chair. ‘The Foundation will greatly benefit from her commitment to philanthropy and her focus on engaging everyone – board, staff, donors and the entire community – in a positive way.’
“Jane brings a wealth of experience leading other community organizations. She graduated as a Wexner Fellow in 1996. She is a past president of Hillel of San Diego and Parents’ Association at the San Diego Jewish Academy, and Campaign Chair and Board Chair of Women’s Philanthropy of the Jewish Federation of San Diego County. She has served as a board member of Hillel International, the San Diego Jewish Academy, the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, South African Jewish American Community, Agency for Jewish Education, United Jewish Communities National Women’s Constituency and the Hebrew Homes Women’s Auxiliary.
