DEL MAR, California (Press Release) — The Jewish Federation of San Diego County has announced the return of The Men’s Event, which is underwritten by the Mizel Family Foundation. The event is scheduled to take place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on December 16, 2015, from 5:30 pm – 9 pm. Tickets to the event are free thanks to the generosity of the Mizel Family.
The Men’s Event is the largest annual gathering of Jewish men in San Diego, known for bringing in dynamic and exciting speakers.
Keynote speaker Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, former Chief of General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces will speak about Israel, family, and community. At the age of 18, Gantz joined the Israeli Defense Force (IDF)’s Paratroopers Brigade – launching military career that was includes all command echelons, from platoon leader to Chief of Staff of the IDF.
During his tenure – in the context of a drastically changing Middle East – Gantz improved the IDF‘s future military capabilities on all geopolitical fronts. Besides supervising ongoing operational activities and covert Special Forces operations, he led the IDF through three major campaigns: Pillar of Defense (‘Amud Annan‘), Operation Brother’s Keeper (‘Shuvu Ahim‘), and Protective Edge (‘Tzuk Eitan‘).
The Men’s Event is also an opportunity for Federation to demonstrate how its mission is changing lives in San Diego, in Israel, and around the world. Whether it is providing much-needed food and medicine for displaced people in Ukraine’s civil war, sending children to Jewish summer camps, providing free Jewish education to more than 3,500 children in our community alone, Federation, its partners, and its team of volunteers, are working every day to create a vibrant, caring, connected, and enduring Jewish community.
This year’s event is co-chaired by Jonathan Bell, Simon Vainer, Philip Linssen, and Gary Levitt.
“The Men’s Event is inspiring because it shows attendees what the Jewish community is and what it can be if we all work together,” said Co-Chair Jonathan Bell.
“We have strength in numbers,” said Ira Feinswog, Federation board member and former Men’s Event co-chair. “We make up a small percentage of the world’s population, but we can make a significant difference if we all work together.”
Co-Chair Simon Vainer added that, “The Men’s Event shines a light on our Jewish tradition, passing on our love and respect for family, community, country, and Israel to the next generation.”
