NEW YORK (Press Release) –– Leaders of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations on Tuesday, Sept. 13, expressed outrage and dismay in response to reports that a pro BDS event sponsored by the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation is scheduled to take place this week in the halls of Congress. Noting that “no Member of Congress should countenance the BDS movement’s virulently discriminatory, bigoted anti-Israel and, at its core, anti-Semitic ideology”, the leaders called for the event to be cancelled.
In a statement, Stephen M. Greenberg, Chairman and Malcolm Hoenlein, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Conference of Presidents said, “We are outraged and dismayed by reports that a pro BDS event has been scheduled for this Friday in a meeting room at the Rayburn House Office Building.
It is shocking that any Member of Congress would align themselves with this vile movement that seeks to destroy the nation state of the Jewish people. This is not about differences over particular policies. BDS is a campaign of lies and distortions to delegitimize the Jewish state. In fact, the BDS campaign hurts the Palestinians by causing jobs and livelihoods to be lost.
No Member of Congress should countenance the BDS movement’s virulently discriminatory, bigoted anti-Israel and, at its core, anti-Semitic ideology, or abet the misuse of the halls of Congress to promote such views.
Those in Congress responsible for securing the space for this meeting should immediately withdraw their support for it and assure that Congress does not provide a platform to promote the BDS movement.”
