SAN DIEGO (Press Release) — The Jewish Federation of San Diego Co
unty will host the annual Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Commemoration event on Sunday, April 8 at 1:30pm, at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center. Hundreds will gather to observe this occasion with a solemn commemoration including Holocaust survivors, families and school children. The program will feature prayers, songs, a candle-lighting ceremony and other presentations. This event is free and open to the public.
The theme for this year’s program is 80 Years – From Kristallnacht to Charlottesville. The event will include keynote speaker James McElroy, Civil Rights Lawyer and former Southern Poverty Law Center Board Chair. Richard Barton, on behalf of ADL San Diego, will conclude the ceremony with a call to action against hate. The entire program will last approximately 90 minutes.
The event is a collaboration of the Jewish Federation of San Diego County, San Diego Rabbinical Association, New Life Club, Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center Jacobs Family Campus, the Center for Jewish Culture, Jewish Family Service, Jewish Community Foundation, and the Anti-Defamation League.
