LA JOLLA, Californian — Celebrating the Israel Philharmonic’s 85th anniversary, the Israel Philharmonic String Quartet is touring the United States. Their San Diego stop will be Wednesday evening, December 8 in the Baker-Baum Concert Hall at the Conrad, 7600 Fay St. in La Jolla.

The hour-long concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and feature single movements from quartets by Mendelssohn, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Ravel, and Haydn. There will be a Gala Reception prior to the concert, sponsored by Sharon and Richard Gabriel and a dessert following the concert.

The quartet members consist of David Radzynski, IPO’s concertmaster, Polina Yehudin, violin, Yoni Gertner, viola, Haran Meltzer, IPO’s principal cello.

The American-trained violinist, David Radzynski, was heard in San Diego in a highly praised violin-piano recital at Congregation Beth El in June, 2019.  He was in San Diego performing with the Mainly Mozart Orchestra. His recital consisted of works by Mozart, Debussy and Kreisler. When Zubin Mehta selected him earlier that year as concertmaster of the IPO, Radzynski was 28 years old, the youngest concertmaster of a major orchestra.

Violinist Polina Yehudin was born in Moscow. She plays in the first violin section of the IPO and has been in the orchestra since 2007. She is married to Yevegeny Yehudin, the IPO’s principal clarinetist.

Violist Yoni Gertner is a native Israeli. He studied in Israel and in the U.S.A. He joined the IPO in 2016 and received grants from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.

Haran Meltzer was named 1st solo cellist of the IPO in 2020. He studied in Israel and in Germany and was also the recipient of many America-Israel Cultural Foundation grants.
