WASHINGTON, D.C. (SDJW) — Hillel International has ranked by Jewish population 60 public universities and 60 private universities in the United States and Canada.
The University of Florida was the first in the public university category with 6,500 Jewish students enrolled.
None of San Diego County’s three public universities — UC San Diego, San Diego State University, nor Cal State San Marcos — were listed in the top 60.
Cal State Northridge ranked 13th; UC Santa Barbara 21st; UC Davis 28th; UCLA 29th; UC Berkeley 30th; and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 52nd.
Among private universities, Boston University ranked first with 4,000 students.
Among California colleges and universities, The University of Southern California was 10th; Stanford University was 36th, and Chapman University 37th.
Hillel also calculated which of 60 universities, private and public, had the highest percentage of Jewish students.
Yeshiva University and the Jewish Theological Seminary of America both had 100 percent Jewish populations. Touro College, Tulane University and Brandeis University were 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively with 61 percent, 44 percent, and 35 percent of their students Jewish. Boston University ranked 17th with Jewish students accounting for 23 percent of its enrollment. The University of Florida ranked 28th with 19 percent. UC Santa Barbara had 3,000 Jewish students for 13 percent.
