A Prayer for L.A.’s First Responders

January 13, 2025

By Rabbi Dr. Kenneth Brander

Rabbi Dr. Kenneth Brander

NEW YORK — May He who blessed our forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and our foremothers, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah, bless and protect all the emergency response forces in Los Angeles who are risking their lives to extinguish the great fire. May God guard and deliver them from all distress and trouble, and may He also watch over all those engaged in this sacred work—firefighters, rescue forces, police, and first responders.

May the Holy one, blessed be He, safeguard and preserve all the residents whose lives are under threat of the fire.

May He who answered Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah in the face of the fiery furnace answer us and send complete healing of body and of soul to the injured and imperiled.

May we be blessed with dew and rain for a good and abundant season and may the blessing “Saturate the face of the earth and satiate the whole world with Your goodness” be fulfilled. For You are our Protector and our Redeemer.

May this be Your will and let us say, Amen.
