Former Congressman and S.D. Mayor Bob Filner Dead at 82

April 29, 2025
Bob Filner

COSTA MESA, California (SDJW) — Former San Diego Mayor, Congressman, Councilman and School Board Member Bob Filner died Sunday, April 20, in a retirement home in this Orange County city.  He was 82.

An obituary paid by his family tipped San Diego news media off that Filner, who left the mayor’s office in disgrace after a score of women accused him of sexual harassment, had died.  After the scandal, Filner moved away from San Diego.

The San Diego Union-Tribune compiled this story about the career of Filner, who was a member of the local Jewish community.  At San Diego State University, he served as the director of the Lipinsky Institute for Judaic Studies in addition to his teaching duties in the history department.

East County Magazine also summarized his career, including his accomplishments and short fallings.

Times of San Diego published a shorter story, focusing on the scandal that drove Filner out of office.
