Jewish Federation of San Diego invites the community to join Jewish Federations of North America for its webinar “Briefing: Israel and the United States at War with Iran” at noon, Wednesday, March 4. This webinar includes a special briefing on the rapidly unfolding conflict with Israel and the United States against Iran. Retired IDF Colonel Miri Eisen will provide a timely update on the latest developments. Click here to register.

Additionally, the Jewish Federation of San Diego and the Secure Community Network invite San Diego Jewish organizations and community members to their “Security Spring Training” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, at Temple Solel. Click here to register. On Monday, March 23, at Congregation Beth Israel, click here to register, and on Thursday, April 16, at Temple Emanu-El, click here to register. These training courses are open to all and include dinner. Choose a date that works for you. These sessions will provide practical guidance on recognizing threats, tools to respond under pressure, and how to ensure the safety of those around you.

This session will focus on the real experiences of people impacted by domestic violence, the role Jewish organizations can play, and practical ways to strengthen organizational response. This interactive workshop for teens in grades 9-12 will focus on helping teens better understand what healthy relationships look like and how to recognize warning signs of unhealthy or abusive dynamics. Talking San Diego presents “Josh Shapiro: In Conversation with Harry Litman at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 14, at Congregation Beth Israel. This event includes Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro in conversation with former U.S. Attorney and Deputy Assistant General Litman, who will discuss Shapiro’s memoir, Where We Keep the Light: Stories from a Life of Service, and his vision for America’s path forward. Tifereth Israel Synagogue presents “A Night at the Theatre: An Act of God” at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 15, at Scripps Ranch Theatre. This play flips faith, power, and humanity upside down with razor-sharp humor. When G-d descends to Earth – alongside two long-suffering angels to set the record straight, sacred truths collide with modern skepticism, politics, and pop culture. San Diego Center for Jewish Culture’s Mandelbaum Family Lecture Series presents Letters to My Father: Excavating a Jewish Identity in Poland and Belarus at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, at Coronado Public Library. This event includes Kathleen Balgley, PhD, who will discuss her book, which explores her discovery of her Jewish roots during a Fulbright scholarship in Poland, her journey to Israel, and her visit to Brest for the opening of The Embrace of Memory, a memorial to the city’s destroyed Jewish community. AROUND THE COUNTY

Ohr Shalom Synagogue reports its synagogue was again vandalized early Sunday morning, March 1, before its Purim Carnival was to be held. The tagging accusing them of false worship was painted over before the event. The police were notified and visited the site and are responding with all appropriate measures. The Conservative synagogue expressed appreciation to the San Diego Police Department, Jewish Federation of San Diego, Secure Communities Network, Anti-Defamation League, American Jewish Council, and others.

OBITUARY NOTICES

Herbert Arnold has died. The funeral will be held at noon, on Sunday, March 8, at El Camino Memorial Park with Rabbi Alexis Berk of Temple Solel as officiant, Am Israel Mortuary reports.

Harvey Cohen has died. He was the husband of Priscilla Cohen, father of Daniel (Joanne) Cohen, David (Wendy) Cohen, Joseph (Lisa) Cohen, grandfather of Tikva Cohen, Ariel Cohen, Eliana Cohen, Christy Cohen, Cindy Cohen, Bridget Cohen, and Nathaniel Cohen. The funeral was held on Monday, March 2, at El Camino Memorial Park, Temple Emanu-El, and Tifereth Israel Synagogue report.

James Friedman has died. The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 4, at El Camino Memorial Park with Rabbi Yehuda Hadjadj as officiant, Am Israel Mortuary reports.
