TEL AVIV, Israel (Press Release) — Passengers on El Al flights on Monday night and Tuesday are receiving take-home yahrzeit candles with individual biographies of a Holocaust victim to commemorate Yom HaShoah.
The initiative is intended to create a moment of pause even while in motion, transforming the journey into a meaningful moment of personal and national connection to remembrance.
As Israel’s national airline, carrying tens of thousands of passengers each day from around the world, El Al sees profound importance in leading initiatives that connect national memory with our daily lives.
The candles are being distributed from a wide range of destinations, including North America, Europe and the Far East, allowing the memory of the millions murdered to resonsate with Jewish and Israeli communities worldwide.
This is a joint effort of El Al, Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial, and Shem Vener (name and candle), the organization distributing these candles carrying personal information about individual Holocaust victims.
