NEW YORK (Press Release) — American Jewish Committee welcomes Tuesday’s direct talks between Israel and Lebanon as an important and constructive step toward reducing tensions and advancing stability along their shared border.
We commend the leaders of both countries for their willingness to pursue direct negotiations to enable a more peaceful, prosperous future.
We also commend the leadership of the United States for facilitating these talks and bringing the parties together at a critical moment.
A durable peace, however, will require more than dialogue. It must include the full disarmament of Hezbollah and the restoration of Lebanese state sovereignty.
AJC remains committed to supporting efforts that advance security, stability, and peaceful coexistence for Israelis, Lebanese, and all the people of the region.
